Your privacy with David
David is a personal assistant made by Brian. This David is run by the owner, for their household, friends, and the people they approve for an account. This page says, in plain words, what David keeps and where it goes.
On your phone
Your chats, notes, what David has learned, your shopping list, and photos are kept on your phone.
Sent to Claude
What you say or type, photos and files you share, and, if you allow it, recent notifications are sent to Anthropic's Claude to get a reply. Some everyday requests are answered by an AI model running on the PC that runs David Desktop instead, and don't leave that PC.
On David Desktop
If you're linked to David Desktop, your chats, what David has learned, and a journal of what he's done for you are copied to the PC that runs it, in a space just for you, so you can continue from your phone, that PC, or a browser. Requests to Claude can pass through it, and it counts how many you make each month. The person who runs David Desktop can see your name and usage, can remove your access, and, because it's their computer, could open the files there.
Accounts
If you ask for an account online, your name, email, and a scrambled form of your password (never the password itself) are kept on the PC that runs David Desktop. the owner sees your name, email, and anything you wrote with your request, and decides whether to approve it. Your email is used only to sign you in. You can close your account from your account page at any time, which deletes your account, your chats, and what David learned about you from that PC.
Payments
If you buy David credit or a membership, you pay on Stripe's own page; your card details go to Stripe and never reach David. David keeps your balance, what you bought and when, and a daily total of the credit your answers used. Stripe keeps its own record of your payment under its privacy policy.
David's library
David keeps a library on the PC that runs David Desktop: offline reference books, the owner's documents, good answers from earlier chats, and today's weather, headlines, scores, and calendar. the owner's documents are private to him. The answers kept for you, and the calendar your phone sends (your next week of events), are private to you and are deleted when your account is closed. Weather, news, and scores come from public sources (Open-Meteo, news sites' feeds, and ESPN); David asks them only for the town and leagues the owner chose, never anything about you. Thumbs up or down on an answer is used only to keep or drop that answer.
In a browser
If you sign in to David in a browser, the browser keeps a sign-in cookie for 90 days, until you sign out, or until your code changes. Nothing else is kept in the browser.
Speech
Your phone's own speech recognizer turns your voice into text. Listening for “Hey David” happens on your phone itself.
Never saved
David is told never to save passwords, card numbers, or health details.
Your control
In the David app, Memory shows what David has learned, and each item can be deleted. Settings has Clear all chats and Forget everything. Uninstalling David removes everything on your phone. In a browser, Memory shows the same things, with Forget. Ask the person who runs David Desktop to remove your space there.
